REDUCE INFLAMMATION Inflammation is a major underlying factor in many weight issues. Reduce dietary sources of inflammation by eating organic, low inflammatory foods. Changes after 45 that cause belly fat

In premenopausal women, estrogen promotes the storage of fat in subcutaneous areas, particularly in the hips and thighs, resulting in a pear-shaped body.

However, as estrogen levels decline during menopause, this protective effect diminishes, and the body starts to store fat preferentially in the abdominal region, which is known as visceral fat.

Visceral fat is more metabolically active and has been associated with a higher risk of metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases, and type 2 diabetes.

What causes belly fat and stubborn weight gain after 45?

  • Blood Sugar Level: As we age, our insulin receptors aren't as sensitive as before; this causes more glucose circulation in the body. The body deposits glucose in the form of fat in the belly as the "safe" place and to protect vital organs.
  • Inflammation: With age, we tend to get more inflamed. This causes insulin receptors to be less responsive and can cause higher blood sugar levels - in spite of no diet changes.
  • Lower Metabolism: With age, basal metabolic rate (BMR) drops. BMR is the rate at which your body burns calories at rest.
  • Lower Estrogen: Estrogen plays a role in regulating fat distribution and metabolism. As estrogen decreases, the body tends to store fat in the abdominal area.
